We really had our doubts that these 3 swifts would survive. They arrived in very poor condition almost 2 weeks ago and at the time of admission, were unable to hold up their heads, were unable to gape, couldn't cling to their cage and had eyes so sunken, we thought they were non-existent. A trip to the avian vet revealed that the fatty layer behind their eyes had been lost due to lack of food.
Today they spent a few hours free flying in the large outdoor aviary. Quite a transformation!
